From Peter Nutt:

1841 Census, Church Streeet: John, 55, shopkeeper, tailor; Emma, 30 (his 2nd wife), George, 18; Mary, 20, Lydia, 1.
1851 Census, Church street: John, 69, shoemaker; Emma, 44, school mistress, b. Ipswich; Lydia, 11, straw plaiter and scholar.
1861 Census, Swan Street: John, 78, shoemaker journeyman; Emma, 54, school mistress; Lydia, 21, school mistress.

Nothing solid yet on the origin of John. Date of birth based on Census resords.

2nd STAGE RESEARCH

Peter, should we look in the Dovercourt PR for John's antecedents? He was described as "of the parish of Dovercourt" in the record of his marriage despite giving SH as his birthplace in the census.

No trace of the marriage of John Abrahams and Emma Charles, may be they married before the start of civile registration on 1 July 1837.

John is given as "of Dovercourt" when he married Susannanah at S.H. in 1811, but there are no entries for Abrahams in the Dovercourt PRs. So we are no wiser about his origins
